SOLOMON ISLANDS | 1 August 2016, Honiara Missionaries: Joshua and Natalie Koura; Charlie and Janet Haddad; Michael and Nora Deatrick.

The blood of many nations has been shed across this beautiful archipelago. The battle of Guadalcanal in World War II saw American and Australian forces destroy a Japanese base which would have cut its Pacific supply lines. And tribal conflict which raged between the two main islands between 1998 and 2003 brought the nation to the brink of collapse. Today a new battle is under way–for the eternal souls of men.

Two Australian brothers-in-Christ from Sydney and Newcastle, Joshua Koura and Charlie Haddad, have just planted Honiara Baptist Church. Much watering of the field has also been done by Pastor Tim Meyer, of Harvest Baptist Church in Beenleigh, Queensland, who distributed Bibles and preached in schools on several trips across the islands. Fellow Americans Michael Deatrick and his wife Nora “coincidentally” ran into Dr. Meyer while they were praying about the Solomons. They are now on deputation to establish a church at Auki on the island of Malaita. Missions trip visitors recently have included evangelist Kev Currell, of Melbourne, and American deaf ministry couple, Robert and Lisa Gunter, who are based in Melbourne.
